Personal Essay

My essay is about different challenges I’ve faced through out my life. When I was born I was diagnosed with a condition called Ulnar Dysplasia, which means a short or missing ulnar bone that causes my hand and wrist to turn outward toward the pinky side of the forearm. But the challenges I face has made me into the person I am today.

One challenge I’ve faced through my life is receiving stares, comments, and heard many whispers from adults and kids. When I was young the stares and comments would hurt but I eventually got over it with the help of my parents. My parents have always supported me and provided me with the confidence to be successful. I’m not a person to shy away from anything because of my difference. I strive to inspire others, who have the same difference as I do or any other challenge, to be the best version of themselves.

Another challenge I’ve faced is people underestimate me. People have told my parents and I, “He can’t swim, he might drown” or “How are you going to catch a football?” or “How are you going to swing a golf club?” or “He’s going to have issues maintaining his core and form when sprinting!”. But I’ve always overcome the doubters. By playing football and running track on the varsity level.

In conclusion I strive to be an inspiration to others like me and beyond. I’ve always worked hard to prove people wrong and show them that anything is possible no matter what you look like.
