I know what you are thinking. How is soccer more dangerous than football?People see football as more dangerous than soccer because of the pads the players have on and hearing the crack of them when a linebacker hits a quarterback. We see soccer as a sport that most kids play growing up and a sport that is globally loved. But in reality soccer is more dangerous and there are a couple of reasons why soccer is significantly more dangerous than football.

The first reason is football players are padded from head to their toes. While soccer players only have shin guards to protect their lower half of their legs from slide tackes. When taking a hit the football players protection absorbs the force from the other player which doesn't cause their body as much damage. This allows football player to hit hard as hard as he can on player-to-player contact and repeatedly do it over and over again. While with soccer players there is no extra padding on their bodies to absorb the force taken from the hit. Which can cause the body to have different long term injuries like concussions, different types of sprains in the muscle, and broken bones.

The second reason is over use of body parts and limbs. With soccer it’s nonstop running for 45 minutes until halftime then another 45 minutes of running. Not including adding time on to the game. Football has 4 quarters each with 15 minutes. In football you have halftime and 2 minute warnings for the players to take a break. With all the running in soccer your joints, muscles, and tendons will have put on a lot of stress overtime. Which causes them to weaken and make the soccer player more susceptible to injuries. Like strains and sprains.

The third reason is concussions. Both soccer and football are the leading sports for most concussions. With continueos head on head contact it makes sense why football and soccer are leading. But did you know soccer has more concussions than football? Also some of these concussions are not only from head on head contact but also from hitting the ball with your head wrong. A study has shown that 10% of high school athletes suffered a concussion from a header in soccer. When going for a header the player usally worries about hitting with no regrades of the player next to him. Which causes the two to collide heads when both are trying to make headers.

In conclusion soccer is more dangerous than football because of the less padding used in the sport, the stress on tendons and ligaments, and finally concussions. Although with this list of injuries, most of them are preventable. With adequate rest time and strengthening the nessacary body parts this sport can be a lot safer than what it is now.
